Egg-Sized Stress Ball – A Map That You Can Squeeze To Zoom In
Haven’t we all lost our nerves at least once by folding an oversized map on a sightseeing-tour?
Indeed, we can rely on technology and use a digital map on our mobile phone, but often the real challenge comes when trying to find a hotspot or even to charge your phone in the city.
In an inspired modern take on the old-fashioned globe map, Denes Sator, a design student in Hungary, has created an egg-shaped map that you can squeeze to inflate, revealing details from the streets of Budapest.
Well, if you haven’t mastered your navigation skills yet and you fear that your precious smartphone will end up on the ground with a crack on its display: EggMap is the perfect gadget for you. It fits in your hand or your pocket and has manual zooming – just by squeezing it, you’ll get more details about the place than bumbling with a printed version.
The map, which is a durable balloon filled with air, has a detailed print on it that expands when squeezed, revealing details that were not initially visible. Sator points out that the modern technologies we often rely on can be finicky – smartphones need data or WiFi coverage and charged batteries while ordinary maps are easily torn and damaged. This beautifully-colored balloon, on the other hand, is waterproof and can be brought anywhere.
Sator eventually plans to sell the maps and to design them for other cities as well, so be sure to follow his work if you like it!
